Tokyo National Museum
The Tokyo National Museum is the oldest museum in Japan, having been established in 1872 during the exposition held at the Taiseiden of Yushima Seido. There are six exhibition halls: Main Building, Toyokan, Hyokeikan, Horyuji Treasure Museum, Kuroda Memorial Hall, and Heiseikan. We have collected and stored more than 117,000 works of art and archaeological relics from Japan and other parts of the East. As of March 2018, the collection includes 89 national treasures and 643 important cultural properties. Oil paintings and sketches by Western-style painter Seiki Kuroda are also on permanent display.
